Having recently moved with 5 large dogs, I can tell you that moving with your pets is really an adventure. I knew that I could not leave these members of my family behind, so we decided to use a truck rental to move. Throughout the process we learned so much, and I quickly decided that we should share everything that we learned.

Planning

The first thing we learned was that no one can move themselves, let alone pets, without a well organized plan. The best place to start is by looking at the options that are open. Moving options include hiring professionals, renting a truck rental, or using a portable crate. If you have dogs, then you know that strange smells and your pets do not get along. For this reason, the least intrusive method to use is a self service method such as a rental from a truck rental place. This way, you are in control of the speed of the move as well as the smells that are involved.

Packing

Many moving companies will come into your home to pack, but they may not know what things you will need to keep out for you and your pets. They are also bringing strange smells into the home, so you probably want to keep such things out of the plan. You will be able to spend lots of time with your pet by packing at your own speed, yet you will still be able to stay on schedule. This little step can help you prevent problems that you might have with behavior later on.

You can often find some pretty good deals just by calling around to get quotes on the moving services that you need. It depends on how you want to move as to who you call. Self service movers such as truck rentals or portable storage crates will generally be handled by specific companies, while professional full service moves are going to be handled by another. Getting many different quotes from multiple companies is important as it will point out the general cost of certain services as well as the companies that will scam you with too low of prices.
